Butterscotch Cookies

 Ingredients:

2 cups brown sugar
1 cup shortening
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts
3½ cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
pinch salt

 Directions:

Cream sugar and shortening, add eggs and beat well. Add vanilla and nuts. Work in flour which has been sifted with cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Shape in rolls about 2 inches. Roll in waxed paper. Chill and cut thin and bake as desired. Oven temperature 425 degrees.
